Graphite Chilling Blocks
Graphite Chilling Blocks (also known as Chills) are specialized graphite components used in metal casting processes to control solidification rates and improve the metallurgical structure of castings. Unlike conventional metal chills, graphite chills utilize graphite's unique thermal properties to absorb heat rapidly from molten metal at targeted locations within a mold. This directional chilling action helps prevent shrinkage defects, refines grain structure, and ensures the production of sound, high-integrity castings in critical sections.
Densified through high-pressure impregnation and baking processes to minimize open porosity. This prevents molten metal penetration into the graphite matrix, while enhancing structural integrity under high-temperature casting conditions.
Formulated with a low coefficient of thermal expansionto withstand rapid temperature fluctuations without cracking or spalling. This addresses the frequent issue of block degradation from repeated heating/cooling cycles in batch casting operations.
CNC-machined to tight tolerances to fit seamlessly into casting molds and dies. Poor fitment (a common pain point) is eliminated, ensuring consistent contact with molten metal and reliable cooling performance across every casting run.
Homogeneous graphite grain distribution eliminates weak points in the material, ensuring consistent heat transfer across the entire block surface.
